Introduction to Technical Diving
This course introduces students to the world of technical diving. This course is designed as an introductory course to the TDO Advanced Nitrox course and the TDI Decompression Procedures course. The objective of this course is to familiarize students with technical gear configurations, to enhance open water diving skills (such as buoyancy, trim, and situational awareness), and to introduce students to advanced gas planning techniques within a no-decompression context. This course is strictly a no-decompression course; students are permitted to use Enriched Air Nitrox mixes, provided the gas mix is within their current level of certification.

Upon successful completion of the course, graduates may engage in diving activities in a technical gear configuration without direct supervision as long as the diving activities, areas of activities, and environmental conditions approximate those of training.

Upon successful completion of this course, graduates may enrol in the TDI Advanced Nitrox Course and the TDI Decompression Procedures course.

A student must:

  • Be a minimum age of eighteen (18) or fifteen (15) with parental consent.
  • Have a minimum certification of SDI Advanced Diver or equivalent
  • Show proof of twenty-five (25) logged open water dives.

The Intro to Tech Manual is the text-book literary assistant to the TDI Intro to Tech certification course. The purpose of this manual is to introduce the sport scuba diver to the concepts of technical diving. It focuses primarily on defining the various activities, explaining the equipment, outlining the options, and previewing the information that will be further addressed during training in each specialty area.
