Don't have a dive buddy? Here are some links with a few different ways to network with other divers and find dive buddies for local fun diving:

Alberta Diving
Believe it or not, Alberta has a very large dive community. Head to one of the lakes in Jasper or Banff on a summer weekend and you will probably see hundreds of divers gathering along the shore and in the water diving.

What is there to see? Well that depends on who you ask and where you go. Obviously the marine life isn't quite the same as the tropics or even on the coast. However, Jasper is a great place to get scuba certified, practice your scuba diving skills, take an advanced or specialty scuba course, and get comfortable and confident with your dive skills. Then when you venture to the tropics or Vancouver Island, not only will you experience some awesome scuba diving, but you'll know what you're doing too! Diving is a very social sport. You're only wet for a short time, and then you get to meet other people with a similar interest and hobby as you.

Weekend Camp 'n' Dives
Most of our open water training is in Jasper because the lakes there are nice, clean, and clear. Some of the more popular lakes for scuba diving around Jasper are Beauvert, Annette, Edith, Horseshow, and Patricia. Click on the Dive Maps page to find out where these lakes are located. Camping is very handy as well making for a great camp 'n' dive weekend for the whole family.

Hire a Divemaster!

Are you a newer diver or never done cold-water diving before? We highly recommend that you hire a divemaster for the day to show you the ropes. Not only are our divemasters experienced at all the popular dive sites around Alberta, but they will be able to assist you with proper weighting, gear configuration, entering/exiting, and just having a good time. In our experience, divers who are new to cold-water diving are much more likely to enjoy themselves when they've had help from someone more qualified than those that have verntured off on their own to try to figure things out on their own. Call the store today for more information.

After Work Fun Dives
We also do after-work dives during the summer for those needing to get wet and have busy weekend schedules. Some local lakes that we like to check out are Twin Lakes, Long Lake, Narrow Lake, Hubbles Lake, and a few others.

Alberta Underwater Council
Check out the Alberta Underwater Council calendar for upcoming diving activities around Alberta. The AUC along with local dive shops host a variety of diving events around Alberta. Lake clean-ups, underwater rodeo, underwater pumpkin carving contest, and of course the World Underwater Poker Tour that is hosted by The Dive Outfitters on Canada Day. Nobody to dive with? No worries. These events attract tons of divers so you'll always have someone to dive with.

Vancouver Island
Known around the world for some of the best temperate-water diving in the world, BC's emerald sea has a plethora of marine life. Talk to the great staff at Nanaimo Dive Outfitters to find out what local dive activities are happening or to find a buddy to dive with. Book a boat dive with Ken at Divers Choice Charters and check out one of the artificial reefs located only minutes from Nanaimo harbour. The Riv Tow Lion is a nice easy dive even for beginner divers. If you're more advanced, check out HMCS Saskatchewan or HMCS Cape Breton for the wreck dive of a lifetime.

Group Dive Trips
If you've been diving in the Caribbean or other warm waters, you quickly realize there is a whole other world underwater! We offer several opportunities throughout the year to join in a group scuba holidays to warmer waters or Vancouver Island. Traveling with other divers can be a lot of fun. You're surrounded by people with a similar, unique interest and you always have a buddy. Most of our group trips are non-diver friendly as well for those with spouses or family members who don't dive. Check out our Travel page for upcomding trips.
